Activity Two
(ages 11 - 13)
Key points
Abuse must be stopped!
Abuse should be reported!
Before you begin the activity
Tell your child, "Abuse is always wrong and it must be stopped.
Unfortunately, some people don't report abuse because they feel
embarrassed, confused or ashamed. Some people worry that they
won't be believed or they may have been bribed or threatened and
they're too scared to tell. I hope you know that you can always
come to me for help or support, and I will try my very best to
help and make you feel better."
Activity
Under the headings on the activity sheet Safe
People write the names of people that your child would trust
enough to go to for help or support in times of need or difficulty.
Read aloud the information stating where to go to report suspected
abuse and then complete the anti-abuse messages by filling in
the missing words. Discuss the concept of the circle of violence,
by explaining that people who abuse others were often abused themselves
when they were children. The best way to stop abuse and neglect
is to report it so that the victim and the offender (the person
committing the abuse) can get help. This is one way to stop the
cycle of violence.
When you have finished the activity
Put your completed activity sheet on display as agreed between
you.
