Activity Two
(ages 8 - 10)
Key points
Using correct names for body parts.
Encouraging children to tell if they are touched inappropriately..
Before you begin the activity
Tell your child that today you are going to learn, or review,
the correct names for some body parts. Tell your child that these
names are the best names to call the body parts. This is so that
everyone understands exactly what part of the body you are speaking
about. You may wish to practise using the correct names for the
listed body parts so that you can demonstrate to your child that
you are comfortable using them.
Activity
Teach your child the correct names for each of the identified
body parts. On the chart Our
Bodies correct body part names are given in English. If you
speak another language with your children, there is space for
the body parts to be named in your chosen language. Use the language
that you feel most comfortable with. Write the names for the identified
body parts on to the appropriate place of each figure. Include
arrows so that the body parts are carefully and accurately identified.
During the activity you may wish to identify the body part by
any of the name/s that your family has used in the past. After
this, we recommend you use correct names only, to avoid confusion.
When you have finished the activity
Explain to your child,
"If you are ever touched in these places by anyone, or
if anyone wants you to touch them in these places, you should
tell me."
Put the completed body-parts diagram on display as agreed between
you.
