Activity Three
(ages 8 - 10)
Key points
Where and to whom can children go
to get help in difficult situations, including abuse?
Identifying people who can help.
Before you begin the activity
Tell your child of a time in your past when you felt confused
or worried about something, or about a problem that you couldn't
solve by yourself. Tell your child who you went to for help and
what happened. Encourage your child to think of a time when they
got help for a problem from someone else.
Activity
Read the problems listed on the Safe
People list aloud. Ask your child who they could go to for
help if they couldn't solve the problem by themselves.
Discuss what this person might be able to do to help.
Think of four other times when your child might need to
get someone else to help them. The situations should be appropriate
to your child's age and environment. Write these down and think
of suitable people to help.
When you have finished the activity
Using the chart How We Feel
About Helpers, complete this session by circling the word
that best shows how you feel after the activity. Both you and
your child should/may complete this activity.
Once you have completed your Safe
People list, put it on display as agreed between you.
