Activity Four
(ages 8 - 10)
Key points
Establishing strategies for children
to keep themselves and others safer.
Before you begin the activity
- You may need to adapt the activity page Keeping
Yourself and Others Safer to make it suit your family situation.
For example, if your child does not have brothers or sisters,
you could change brother / sister to cousin, friend etc. Think
of two other scenarios appropriate to your child's situation and
environment. Write these in the empty spaces provided.
- Print off the page Choices
We Can Make and use it to help with the activity.
Activity
Tell your child that today you are going to discuss what he or
she could do to keep safe or make someone else safer. Explain
that the activity sheet Keeping
Ourselves and Others Safer has situations that they might
find themselves in at some time. Talk about what your child could
do in the situation, immediately and then later on. Discuss possible
outcomes that could result from these actions. The activity sheet
has some ideas for keeping safer listed in Choices
We Can Make. Ask your child to choose one or more of these
for each situation.
When you have finished the activity
Put your completed activity sheet on display as agreed between
you.
